The World Economic Forum has released this year’s Tourism Development Index, ranking the Philippines 69th out of 119 countries—the lowest among the six major economies of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Within the ASEAN region, Singapore ranked highest at 13th, followed by Indonesia (22nd), Malaysia (35th), Thailand (47th), Vietnam (59th), the Philippines (69th), Cambodia (86th), and Laos (91st).
Globally, the United States ranked first, Spain second, and Japan third. China secured the 8th position, South Korea 14th, and India 39th.
The index evaluates various factors, including policy priorities for tourism development, openness of immigration procedures, price competitiveness in tourism, and transportation infrastructure.
