On the 4th, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida delivered a significant speech at the Philippine parliament. He highlighted Japan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with ASEAN. During the upcoming special summit in December, celebrating 50 years of friendship with ASEAN, Japan aims to establish a new vision for their future relations.
Prime Minister Kishida referenced the “Fukuda Doctrine,” introduced in 1977 by former Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda, emphasizing equality and trust-based relationships. At the December summit, Japan and the Philippines aim to pass on trust to the next generation and create a vision for a prosperous and sustainable future. They also initiated a new security framework called “Office Security Capability Assistance (OSA),” enhancing security capabilities in the region. The two nations agreed to negotiate a Facilitation Agreement to deepen their strategic cooperation further.
