JAPAN’S KFC CHRISTMAS
We are now in the middle of October and in exactly 67 days, we will be celebrating Christmas. While Japan is not traditionally a Christian country, the celebration of Christmas is not unfamiliar to its people. Some even liken it to a second Valentine’s Day, using the occasion as an opportunity to spend time with their partners rather than their families.
However, there’s one undeniable tradition that has become synonymous with Christmas in Japan: KFC Day. This tradition supposedly originated in the 1970s when a Japanese man overheard an expatriate longing for a Christmas turkey. The closest and most accessible alternative, in their minds, was chicken, and thus the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) tradition was born.
Each Christmas season, KFC Japan kicks off their online reservations in early November to prepare for the surge of Christmas orders. Customers can select from a range of meal sets, which typically include the famous fried chicken, pasta, cake, and other items from the regular KFC menu.
Be sure to keep an eye out for their announcements regarding reservations, as it’s a highly anticipated event leading to the holiday season.
