JAPAN IS RANKED IN THE TOP 3 “NEXT TRAVEL DESTINATIONS” IN 11 ASIAN MARKETS

The experience booking platform Klook conducted a survey on travel awareness, gathering responses from 2,400 individuals aged 18 to 40 across 12 markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the survey results, Japan emerged as one of the top three preferred “next travel destinations” in 11 markets, with the exception of India. Among these markets, Japan claimed the top spot, with Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and South Korea following closely behind. Notably, in Japan itself, a significant 84% of respondents expressed their intention to travel within the country, highlighting a strong preference for domestic tourism. The most popular international destinations for Japanese travelers are South Korea and Singapore.

Furthermore, a noteworthy finding from the survey is that one in three respondents reported having a budget exceeding $2,000 (approximately 296,000 yen) for their upcoming trip. This amount is more than double the average monthly income in Asia, which stands at $1,069 (approximately 158,000 yen). However, in Japan, a country where domestic travel is predominant, over half of the respondents planned to allocate less than $1,000 (approximately 148,000 yen) for their next trip, a budget level similar to that of the Philippines.

Conversely, in China, a striking 60% of respondents indicated budgets exceeding $3,000 (approximately 440,000 yen), and nearly 20% had budgets exceeding $5,000 (approximately 740,000 yen). This reflects a remarkably high level of consumer confidence in China’s market.

When it comes to spending on experiences during their trips, 44% of the respondents expressed their desire to “allocate a substantial amount of money.” When combined with those who indicated they “intend to spend some money,” the percentage surged to 85%. Examining individual markets, Vietnam (71%), India (60%), Thailand (59%), and the Philippines (52%) showed a high willingness to spend on experiences. In contrast, Japan (22%) and South Korea (22%) exhibited lower enthusiasm in this regard.
