AUTUMN FOOD IN JAPAN

Though it is still hot in the morning, we can already feel the cold breeze at night. This is a sign that season is already changing from Summer to Autumn. Along with the changes in weather comes the seasonal autumn food to watch out for.

  1. Oden – It is a Japanese hotpot that consists of several ingredients like boiled eggs, daikon, konjac with fish cakes boiled in light soy sauce and dashi broth. Perfect for lunch or dinner in a cold weather. You can also buy oden in convenience stores in Japan and you can customize it to your preference.
  2. Yakiimo – Although imo can be bought anytime in Japan, the yakiimo sold in groceries and sometimes convenience stores are particularly sweeter during this period. They can fill you up instantly. You can also try buying yakiimo in the vans that sometimes roam in your area. If you want to add some kick to your sweet potato, you can add vanilla ice cream on top!
  3. Kaki or Persimmons – They are called the other orange-colored fruit. Packed in vitamin A and C as well, and it is also rich in dietary fiber. They are known for being sweet. This fruit can also be added as toppings to your oatmeal.
  4. Kuri or Chestnuts – This small fruit is typically used as ingredients in cakes or sweets. They are also rich in vitamins and iron. The most famous kuri meal is when you mix it with rice. Totally delicious and healthy.
