CONTINUED MOMENTUM IN JAPANESE TOURISM: JULY 2023 OVERNIGHT STAYS AND INTERNATIONAL VISITOR TRENDS
According to Japan’s Tourism Agency, in July 2023, there was a 32.5% increase in the number of overnight visitors compared to the previous year, totaling 52.82 million stays.
Japanese visitors increased by 2.9% compared to July 2019, while foreign visitors decreased by 1.6%.In June 2023, the total number of overnight visitors decreased by 1.1% compared to 2019, with 45.33 million stays.
Foreign visitors accounted for 20.6% of the total, with Tokyo showing the highest growth rate at 30.6% compared to July 2019.The top five nationalities of foreign visitors in June 2023 were Taiwan, the United States, South Korea, China, and Hong Kong, together making up 62.6% of the total.
The United States saw a significant increase of 53.8% compared to July 2019, with other countries like Singapore, Australia, the Philippines, and Canada also experiencing growth.
