CEBU PACIFIC PLANE MAKES U-TURN DUE TO FUKUOKA “CURFEW” AND IS STUCK FOR 11 HOURS
A plane of Cebu Pacific Air, a Philippine low-cost carrier (LCC) from Manila, was unable to land at its destination, Fukuoka Airport, and made a U-turn last September 4th.
The plane diverted to Kitakyushu Airport, about 60 kilometers away, but was unable to disembark the passengers, and then returned to Manila because it was past Fukuoka Airport’s 10 p.m. curfew.
The passengers were stuck on the plane for about 11 hours after takeoff from Manila. The sky over Fukuoka Airport was crowded, and there was a danger that the aircraft would run out of fuel before it was ready to land again.
Passengers were not able to disembark at Kitakyushu Airport because immigration procedures could not be completed, and in the meantime the 10:00 curfew at Fukuoka Airport passed.
The aircraft refueled at Kitakyushu Airport, took off at around 0:16 am on the next day, and landed back at Manila airport at around 3:19 am.
