POSTPONEMENT ON THE REVISED GUIDELINES FOR INTERNATIONAL BOUND FILIPINO PASSENGERS
Ahead of the implementation on the 3rd, the new guidelines, which include stricter immigration procedures than before, recently formulated by the Ministry of Justice and the Commission for the Eradication of Human Trafficking in order to stop victims of human trafficking at the border, is decided to be postponed.
On April 31, the government notified examiners stationed at international airports to postpone the implementation of immigration inspections in accordance with these guidelines. There was growing criticism that it would increase the burden on Filipino tourists and there was strong opposition in the Senate.
Regarding the new guidelines, Minister of Justice expressed the view that implementation of the guidelines should be temporarily suspended in order to sort out the issues. In response, the commission announced on the 31st that it would “temporarily freeze the implementation of the new guidelines”.
