JAPAN AIMS FOR PRE-COVID TOURIST LEVELS BY YEAR END
Japan’s Tourism Commissioner, Ichiro Takahashi, expects foreign visitors to return to pre-pandemic levels by year-end.
Last month, around 2.32 million foreigners visited Japan, reaching 77% of 2019 levels.Takahashi stated, “Visitor numbers are slowly improving. We’re focused on boosting inbound and outbound travel.”
He also noted the resumption of group travel from China could lead to a fuller recovery by October’s National Day holiday. However, a labor shortage in accommodations has emerged due to the tourism rebound. Plans are underway to enhance national support and address the issue.
