JAPAN FOREIGN VISITORS TO EXCEED THE ANNUAL NUMBERS OF 20 MILLION

The total number of foreign visitors since January has reached 3,032,900, which is 7 million more than the yearly 20 million stamp.

Looking at the number of travelers to Japan by country, South Korea has 626,800 (up 11.6% compared to 2019), Taiwan has 422,300 (down 8.0%), and China has 313,300 (70.2%). 216,400 in Hong Kong (down 0.2%), and 198,800 within the Joined together States (up 26.7%).

As of August 10, 2023, China has lifted its boycott on deals of group travel to Japan, and further recovery is anticipated within the future.

Also, there are 12 countries that surpassed their numbers in 2019, such as the Philippines (up 36.9%) and Canada (up 32.5%). A few major Asian markets, such as Taiwan (down 8.0%) and Hong Kong (down 0.2%), which are returning to 2019 levels.

Due to the tensions between South Korea and Japan, caution is required when making comparisons with 2019 records.
