THE 2024 BUDGET INCLUDES 2.8 BILLION PESOS FOR MANILA AIRPORT, WITH 1.2 BILLION PESOS FOR A NEW CONTROL SYSTEM
According to Vice Chairman Luis Campos of the House Committee on Ways and Means, the 2024 government budget includes a 2.8 billion peso allocation for Manila International Airport.
This encompasses 1.2 billion pesos for a control system upgrade and 1.6 billion pesos for other airport improvements. This was reported by the English newspaper Inquirer on the 14th.
The total budget, amounting to 5.77 trillion pesos, designates 6.1 billion pesos for airport construction, expansion, and navigation enhancements under the Department of Transportation.
It also covers 10 airport development projects, including expansions for Kalibo and Lal-Lo International Airports, redevelopment of Tacloban Airport, and construction of the new Dumaguete Airport.In the case of Manila International Airport, an outage in January led to the cancellation of over 300 flights, and power disruptions in May and June caused significant flight disruptions.
